Channa Sundal

Cold evenings are upon us and I love me some steaming hot sundal. Sundal is nothing but you make some tadka and add it to you steamed lentils. As we know lentils are very healthy and I love them, I’m hoping to have more sundal throughout the winter. If I could eat this everyday I would but then who can endure fart fest everyday? xD This is a southindian snack and many of you may not be aware of it so here’s how I make it.  channa_sundal You will need
  1. Chickpeas/channa- 1/2 cup
  2. Shredded Coconut- 2 tbsp
  3. Salt- 1/2 tsp
To temper
  1. Oil- 1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
  3. Urad dal- 1 tsp
  4. Asafoetida- a pinch
  5. Red chili- 2 (break into 4 pieces)
METHOD
  • Soak channa overnight and pressure cook it in 3 cups of water for 5 whistles.
  • Heat a pan with oil and add mustard seeds to it. Wait for it to sizzle and add rest of the ingredients.
  • Drain the water from cooked channa and add it to the pan. Mix well.
  • Add coconut and mix well again.
  • Serve it hot. Enjoy.

  1. Ah!! Here we differ!! Sundal made of any lentil, I hate!! Like a prasadam, I take one or two, that’s it!! 😀 I dread Navarathri only for this- that for 9 continuous days I must eat Sundal 🙁 But, I will try this recipe for the sake of people like you to enjoy 😛
