{Garden to Plate Series}Veggie Burger with Aloo-Beetroot Patty

I’m a burger lover, I LOVE LOVE burgers with veggie patty of course. It’s a sad thing that there are very less options for us vegetarians in US when it comes to burger. I have eaten black bean burger which is vegetarian but it just doesn’t cut it for me. I love me some potato patty in my burger so I make my own and here’s how I make. It’s worth the effort guys and homemade burgers are the best! Try it! image1-45   You will need For patty
  • Potatoes- 3
  • Beetroot- 1, small
  • Peas- 3/4 cup
  • Cumin seeds/ jeera- 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder- 1 tsp(adjust as you like)
  • Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Kitchen king masala- 1 tsp
  • Chat masala- 1/2 tsp
  • Salt- to taste
  • Bread crumbs- 1 cup (I use Panko bread crumbs and love it)
  • Oil- for pan frying
For burger
  • Whole wheat buns- 4
  • Lettuce- a bunch
  • Tomato- 1, thinly sliced
  • Onion- 1, thinly sliced
  • Cucumber-1, thinly sliced
  • Cheese slices- 4, I din’t ahve them so I added shredded mozarella this time
  • Mayonnaise+ sri racha sauce- 1/4 cup+1/3 cup or just use regular ketchup
METHOD
  • Pressure cook potatoes and beetroot with some salt for two whistles. peel the skin and mash well. Add rest of the ingredients mentioned under ‘ For patty’  except oil and bread crumbs and mix well.
  • Take some bread crumbs on a plate and keep it aside. Form a big lemon sized balls with the potato mixture and slightly pat it with the bread crumbs on both sides. You will have a patty covered with bread crumbs.
  • Heat a pan on medium flame and place the patties and fry on both sides with generous amount of oil. Now that the patties are ready,
lets assemble the burger.
  • Slice the bun in to halves. Heat a pan and slightly toast the bun with some oil/butter. Spread the mayonnaise+sriracha sauce lightly.
  • Place the patty over it and top it with cheese slice.
  • Next, top it with all the veggies- onion, tomato, cucumber and some lettuce leaves.
  • Drizzle some sauce again and cover it with the top of the bun. ENJOY!!

  1. I have had an embarrassing experience with Burger. In college days, few friends and I had been to McD for birthday treat. Ordered burger. I panicked seeing the size and worried if I could ever open my mouth well enough to take a bite of that 😀 It was an epic failure. cheese oozing out, lettuce falling down and that patty moved out 😀 People had a good entertainment watching me struggle. That is the last time I ever had a burger!! Realized later, as someone who couldn’t accommodate even a slightly bigger Pani puri, I should not have attempted eating a burger only!!!!

    May be I can try this for Kanna. He can do what I couldn’t 🙂

    1. AHAHAHA. Been there, done that. I have a small mouth too and struggle with pani puri and burgers and that’s another reason why I prefer eating them at home. So next time, get it home delivered and enjoy! 😀
