Zucchini Spaghetti in Avocado-Pea-Radish greens Pesto

IMG_2733 I’ve been meaning to try spiralizing zucchini since long time, so glad that I finally made it to the zoodles bandwagon. a lil too late but oh well! We had a zucchini plant last summer which flooded us with jumbo zucchinis and I was running out of recipes. Since they were jumbo in size I couldn’t spiralize it then. I recently picked some small sized zucchinis JUST to make zoodles and it came just fine. I love how it comes together so easily and tastes so much like the real deal.. but healthier.. and tastier. Moringa Leaves Stir-fry

Growing up, I hated greens and vegetables. I vividly remember making faces at my mom whenever she force fed us. Little did I know the health benefits then, all I knew was spinach was Mr.Popeye’s favorite. Now, greens are a must for me not that I like it but I feel good when I eat it. I usually add it to my daily smoothies or else in curries like palak paneer, spinach dal tadka or a simple stir-fry like this one. This time I was surprised to find moringa leaves/ drumstick leaves/Murunga keerai in our Indian grocery story and grabbed it without second thoughts. My mom usually makes sambar or kootu, I wanted to just stir-fry it along with some moong dal.Read More …

Broccoli Curry

broccoli_gravy Growing up, I used to be such a picky eater and refused to eat vegetables. Give me any fruit, I would eat it without complaining. Even now I’m not a big fan of any vegetable, but I have grown old enough to realize that whether you like it or not, you gotta eat it. I try to make it easy to eat by cooking it in a way which I would like. After lots of experimentation with broccoli, now I have started to like broccoli if it’s made this way. No biggie. Just another  tomato-onion gravy with broccoli in it and I loved it. Not just me, my brother who never ever comments on food said that this curry is too good. Here’s how I made it..Read More …

Wheat Grass Shots

wheatgrassjuice I had talked about ‘wheat grass juice’ here and I received few messages asking how to consume it. Good news is it’s pretty simple to juice it but kinda tacky to grow. Few months back, one of my dad’s old friends got to know about my dad’s health issues and suggested him to take wheat grass shots everyday. My mom made them faithfully every morning and my dad consumed it without any hesitation. To be honest, the taste is neutral, not sweet/sour/bitter. But we add lemon juice and honey to it which makes it tastier and most importantly healthier.Read More …

Cashew Macaroons

Cashew macaroons or ‘mukroons’ however u call it used to be my childhood favorite. Whenever my dad traveled to Mangalore, I’ll be waiting for him to return back with these yummy goodies.. These airy, nutty, sugary treats are really addictive, you cannot stop eating these. I had a beautiful dream about my dad, he was helping me with gardening only to wake up and realize that he is no more.. So I woke up  sobbing today morning and needed a pick me up and decided to bake something simple. This was in my to-do list since long and finally got to make it today.. And I’m glad that I did, it sure whipped up a lot of childhood memories.. CashewMacaroons These cashew macaroons are very easy to make with minimal ingredients. I love how I got it right at the first attempt and the taste was 99.99% similar to the authentic one. Oh btw, I have never tasted a macaroon from Thoothukudi, to be honest, I din’t even know these existed in Tamil Nadu too. But, my husband said it tasted ditto like the Thoothukudi ones except that the shape will be of cone.. Oh well!!Read More …

Vegan Green Smoothie

In my previous post I had mentioned that I lost my dad to cancer recently and life’s been rough and pointless since then.. I have been shutting myself away from everyone and living in my own cocoon.. It’s impacting me not just emotionally but also mentally and physically.. I’m losing hair at an alarming rate, my stomach and head hurts all day when I sob.. I’m struggling to deal with the loss and sadly, I’m not able to express it orally to anyone.. Until last week, I din’t feel like cooking/ blogging/watching TV.. Everyone deals with the pain of loss differently, it’s a learning process for me. And, I have realized that I need to find happiness in simplest of things and try to live life one moment at a time.. I have decided to cook something that my dad likes, so that I’d get the motivation to cook something everyday.. I’ll also try to blog the recipe.. So for today, I made this delicious vegan smoothie.. Growing up, my dad used to feed us  a lot of avocados in the form of ice-cream, pudding, milkshake/smoothie.. So I came up with this smoothie for today which is loaded with spinach, pineapple, avocado(no points for guessing that), almond milk and lots of memories.. We had this smoothie after our evening walk, not only this smoothie was delicious but it was super refreshing and energy-boosting.. Green_smoothie Read More …

Chocolate Mug Cake

We are 15 days into 2016 already, a very Happy New Year y’all..

Sorry for being MIA, not that you guys missed me (or did you?)

I was homesick AF.. I just wanted to stay away from everything. No mood for anything kind of days.. But now I’m back and I feel much better.

Speaking of ‘no mood for anything’, I din’t even cook much last couple of days.. I had gone from ‘live-to-eat’ to ‘eat-to-live’.

So on one of those days, when I got bored of having just hot cocoa for breakfast, I was in mood to make this mug cake.
