Moringa Leaves Stir-fry

Growing up, I hated greens and vegetables. I vividly remember making faces at my mom whenever she force fed us. Little did I know the health benefits then, all I knew was spinach was Mr.Popeye’s favorite. Now, greens are a must for me not that I like it but I feel good when I eat it. I usually add it to my daily smoothies or else in curries like palak paneer, spinach dal tadka or a simple stir-fry like this one. This time I was surprised to find moringa leaves/ drumstick leaves/Murunga keerai in our Indian grocery story and grabbed it without second thoughts. My mom usually makes sambar or kootu, I wanted to just stir-fry it along with some moong dal.Read More …

Broccoli Curry

broccoli_gravy Growing up, I used to be such a picky eater and refused to eat vegetables. Give me any fruit, I would eat it without complaining. Even now I’m not a big fan of any vegetable, but I have grown old enough to realize that whether you like it or not, you gotta eat it. I try to make it easy to eat by cooking it in a way which I would like. After lots of experimentation with broccoli, now I have started to like broccoli if it’s made this way. No biggie. Just another  tomato-onion gravy with broccoli in it and I loved it. Not just me, my brother who never ever comments on food said that this curry is too good. Here’s how I made it..Read More …

Wheat Grass Shots

wheatgrassjuice I had talked about ‘wheat grass juice’ here and I received few messages asking how to consume it. Good news is it’s pretty simple to juice it but kinda tacky to grow. Few months back, one of my dad’s old friends got to know about my dad’s health issues and suggested him to take wheat grass shots everyday. My mom made them faithfully every morning and my dad consumed it without any hesitation. To be honest, the taste is neutral, not sweet/sour/bitter. But we add lemon juice and honey to it which makes it tastier and most importantly healthier.Read More …

Vegan Green Smoothie

In my previous post I had mentioned that I lost my dad to cancer recently and life’s been rough and pointless since then.. I have been shutting myself away from everyone and living in my own cocoon.. It’s impacting me not just emotionally but also mentally and physically.. I’m losing hair at an alarming rate, my stomach and head hurts all day when I sob.. I’m struggling to deal with the loss and sadly, I’m not able to express it orally to anyone.. Until last week, I din’t feel like cooking/ blogging/watching TV.. Everyone deals with the pain of loss differently, it’s a learning process for me. And, I have realized that I need to find happiness in simplest of things and try to live life one moment at a time.. I have decided to cook something that my dad likes, so that I’d get the motivation to cook something everyday.. I’ll also try to blog the recipe.. So for today, I made this delicious vegan smoothie.. Growing up, my dad used to feed us  a lot of avocados in the form of ice-cream, pudding, milkshake/smoothie.. So I came up with this smoothie for today which is loaded with spinach, pineapple, avocado(no points for guessing that), almond milk and lots of memories.. We had this smoothie after our evening walk, not only this smoothie was delicious but it was super refreshing and energy-boosting.. Green_smoothie Read More …
